This listing is to purchase the Dragons: A Field Guide cross stitch pattern. This design was originally released as a stitchalong, and it is now available as a complete pattern. It is a richly coloured and beautiful guide to some of the dragons you are most likely to meet. This field guide will help you identify dragons in the wild, as well as being a wonderful piece to hang on your wall. An introduction to dragons and information on each dragon stitched is included in the pattern.

You will receive two 33-page pattern booklet PDFs, one with colour patterns and one with black & white patterns (with colour backstitch). The booklets contain:
• Images of the completed piece
• Full pattern on one page, for screen use
• Full pattern over nine pages, for printing
• Complete thread key
• Close up patterns of every individual dragon, with specific thread keys for each dragon
• An introduction to the amazing world of dragons and information on every dragon you are stitching
You will also receive full cross stitch instructions.

The stitched area of the finished piece is: 203 stitches wide x 269 stitches high

On 14 count fabric this is approximately 14.5 x 19.2 inches or 36.8 x 48.8 cm
On 16 count fabric this is approximately 12.7 x 16.8 inches or 32.2 x 42.7 cm
On 18 count fabric this is approximately 11.3 x 14.9 inches or 28.7 x 37.9 cm

Other count fabrics can be used - just adjust the sizing accordingly.

These dimensions do not include the border of fabric you will need to leave around the design. I recommend you leave a further 2-3 inches all the way round (which means that you need to add 4-6 inches to your size measurements).

The pattern was model stitched on ‘Dragon’s Breath’ hand dyed fabric. This beautiful fabric was created especially for this pattern by Nichole Young of Afterglow Workshop in the United States. You can buy the fabric at https://www.etsy.com/shop/AfterglowWorkshop - it is available in 14, 16 and 18 count versions, all at sizes suitable for this stitchalong. The model was stitched on the 16 count version.

Alternatively you can use any fabric colour you like best - blue, green, grey, white or many other colours would all be great. The colours used in the design are mainly quite bright, so as long as your fabric isn’t so bright that any of the colours don’t show up against it, it should work with most fabrics other than very dark ones. You can always check by doing a ‘floss toss’ of lying the threads out on the fabric and making sure none of them blend in too much.

42 thread colours are used in the design. You will need 2 skeins of DMC 310 (Black), and 1 skein or less of all the other colours. The pattern uses full cross stitches, fractional cross stitches (in relatively small numbers compared to the number of full cross stitches), a small amount of backstitch and three French knots.

Skill level: Suitable for those with experience of cross stitch.

This listing is for PDFs of this pattern; it is not a completed piece nor a kit, so no fabric, thread or other materials are included. The charts are Instant Download so you can start stitching straight away!

Super excited for this SAL. I started this a bit late and I'm currently getting my thread and fabric together and look forward to stitching this up! Plus the Facebook page is so helpful and a great resource.

Dragon love

I’m looking forward to this project; the only thing wrong with the whole “package” is the number of repeated pages that I ended up printing more than once before realizing I already had them from the previous ones (printer ink is frightfully expensive!).

Variety

Looks as if the variety will be fun! The info included about each “breed” of dragon is clever.

Haven’t even started stitching

You’re asking for a review really quickly. I’m waiting on my fabric and still need to get prepared and ready before I have a chance to stitch a long. Plus I’m behind. Also need to get threads. I can’t give you a review yet, but I am. My suggestion would be to give people more time, like a month, 3 months or even 6 months later. Especially for longer stitch a longs

Dragon stitch along

The first part of the pattern is great, very easy to follow. Can't wait to see how it grows over the year!
